Monday is here and another weekend came and went at warp speed! We filled our days with family time and fun in the sun and I’m popping in this morning to take you along for the ride.

Saturday

Saturday morning began with a garage workout with Ryan. I was on the struggle bus when it came to workout motivation last week and after several rest days, it felt good to get back at it on Saturday. I completed a leg and booty workout that looked like this:

After Ryan and I were both done with our workouts, we took full advantage of having my mom in town (she leaves this morning — boo!) and headed out on a walk with Sadie. We say that whenever we get out on a walk with Sadie and no kids it almost feels like a date for us during these crazy times because we get to talk uninterrupted and just enjoy being together distraction-free. It was the best way to begin our weekend and I loved talking about anything and everything with an emphasis on our big car decision that continues to loom over our heads!

By the time we made it home, Chase was awake and reading stories with my mom (he suckered her into 10 books!) and Ryder was rolling around in his crib quite happily, so we let him chill and Ryan and Chase got to work building a model rocket (more on this below)! Eventually my father-in-law made his way over and we all headed out for a few hours on the lake.

We made our way up the lake to a little beach where we threw down our anchor and swam, played in the sand and dug into the stash of food we had packed in our cooler.

By the time we made it home, we were ready for a late lunch and Ryder was ready for a nap. He took a solid 2+ hour nap and we all hung out around the house and relaxed while he slept.

Once Ryder was up and ready for action, we did a little crafting! Late last week, we bought a tie dye kit and some white tees and tanks and figured the boys would be all about it. Ryder was a little young for the activity (he mainly just wanted to play in the little droplets of dye that ended up on the plastic we laid down to protect our counters) and both boys needed a little help to get the dye to really absorb into the fabric but they loved selecting their colors and watching their t-shirts transform!

Once we had all the dye cleaned up, we made our way to Davidson for dinner and picked up takeout Carburrito’s for dinner and frozen custard from Whit’s to satisfy our dessert cravings.

(Ryan and Chase’s coordinating t-shirts were a Father’s Day gift from Chase since they love doing a “shake and bake” handshake together a la Talladega Nights.)

We did an express bedtime routine when we arrived home since we were out a little later than anticipated and then crashed hard soon after the boys were asleep.

Sunday

Sunday morning began with a bit of a fail. After breakfast, Ryan and Chase put the finishing touches on the model rocket they built on Saturday and Chase was pretty excited to try on Ryan’s old space suit from space camp as they worked together.

Ryan attended space camp as a kid and still raves about it being the coolest experience!

Once everything appeared to be ready with their rocket, we made our way out to a local park with a large field for the big launch.

Everyone was all hyped up for the big take off and we made a big deal counting down to the launch.

3… 2… 1…

Aaaand nothing happened. Womp, womp.

As Ryan did his best to figure out the issue with the rocket, another father and son came biking by and started chatting with us. They’ve set off a bunch of model rockets together and even had experience with the exact rocket Ryan and Chase put together. Apparently it needs bigger batteries than noted, despite what the rocket kit said, so we’re on a mission to get new batteries and try again soon.

We spent the rest of our morning at the park kicking soccer balls around until it got too hot and we figured an afternoon on the water might be more appealing for a day when temperatures were predicted to climb into the 90s yet again.

Greg joined us for our boating adventures again and we went on a longer ride up to one of our favorite beaches which also happens to be the frequent site of the boys’ favorite ice cream boat!

I never knew ice cream boats were a thing until we moved to North Carolina but it basically functions as an ice cream truck complete with the traditional music and putters around Lake Norman with an assortment of ice cream bars and popsicles. Our kids literally freak out when they see it and nabbing a couple of ice cream treats after a lot of swimming is a highlight for them for sure!

We spent several hours on the water and naturally on our way home Ryder took a tiny boat nap that ruined his nap for the afternoon. Thankfully both boys were in good moods and played well together at home while we made dinner and hung out around the house. We also donned our tie dye creations from the night before and loved the way everything turned out!

I am now having visions of tie dye projects we can tackle around the holidays (red and green Christmas jammies are calling to me) and may also need to grab a onesie to tie dye before our little one arrives in 5(ish) weeks!

We managed to get both boys in bed by 7 p.m. (no nap for Ryder makes that much more feasible) and chatted with my mom until we were all too sleepy to stay awake any longer.

As for the day ahead, we may be getting together with a friend for some outside playtime after saying goodbye to my mom and I hope to get our house in order a bit since we neglected laundry and other weekend chores.
