What is a jade roller?

For the uninitiated, a jade roller is a handheld beauty device that is made of jade or other stones and is used to massage the face. The practice of using a crystal or polished stone to apply pressure to the skin goes back to seventh-century China. A typical jade roller has two teardrop almond-shaped or rounded pieces of jade or other polished stone (typically rose quartz or amethyst) at either end of a wand. Both pieces of stone may be the same size or one may be smaller than the other. Some rollers have a textured stone on one end and a polished one on the other. How to use a jade roller correctly

The general rule of using a jade roller is to always push up and out, never down. Gravity is already doing that for you! Also always apply a light layer of lotion, serum, or oil to your face. Do not use a jade roller on dry skin.

The object is to push any trapped fluid in the skin cells toward the lymph nodes so it can be processed and eliminated and to improve blood circulation.

  • Work one side of your face at a time.
  • Begin at the center of your face and roll outwards across your cheeks.
  • Place the roller on your eyebrows and roll upwards across your forehead.
  • Place the roller on the side of your mouth and roll up toward your ear.
  • Place the roller on the sides of your chin and roll outwards.
  • Use the larger end for broad areas and the smaller end for more delicate and hard to reach areas
  • Use a jade roller twice a day: morning and evening
